Origin
The need for a Wrestler
Buri translates to something snowy (Burf is snow in Hindi). A Punjabi bodybuilder from India by the name Harbans Vig was bored of consuming ghee and milk.
Barfi’s invention
He decided to do something delicious too and retain his fitness and strength. This is when he mixed milk, cream, sugar, and ghee along with nuts.
Satisfying Sweet
This gave birth to the burfi as it was white in color and looked, and felt like snow. This satisfied Harbhan’s craving.
Adding coconut
Coconut was added to this delicious sweet and in many cases, sugar was substituted with jaggery to make it healthier.
